The presenter will introduce attendees to the current state of disciplinary practices within early childhood and explore the utilization of trauma-informed approaches, policies, and procedures in educational settings. Following current research, practical strength-based techniques will be provided employing knowledge of child development, learning theory, and mental health. An analysis of the functions, motivations, and consequences of behavior will be helpful when increasing healthy behaviors and social-emotional skills of young children. This presentation aims to provide participants with a deep understanding of culture, trauma, and disciplinary actions for all learners.

The Keys to Culturally Responsive Practices workshop will start with the explaining of culture, biases, and understanding diverse communities. As the workshop progresses, attendees will learn to integrate the knowledge of culture into their practices and develop socially just environments for all. This workshop has two tracks, one designed for educators and one for clinical professionals with the goal of creating equity and social justice as the keystone for attendees’ work. 

This workshop will outline the five steps of school-based consultation designed for mental health clinicians. After this workshop attendees will have the skills to help schools improve learning environments, reduce staff burn-out and reduce dangerous and disruptive behaviors.
